WOW! An amazing and simple device that actually does what it's supposed to do with no fuss. If you look at the metal disk that rides under the head of this device (the top surface in our photo), it's set at exactly the height your grounds should lie in the portafilter, and the black body rides ON TOP of the portafilter. A simple twist flattens the coffee to exactly the tamping height. Then you can simply tamp - instead of trying to both tamp and level, as we've all become used to doing. A great invention!

Coffee leveler is used to flatten - AND LEVEL - your dose in the portafilter prior to tamping it.

Usually, when you put ground coffee into a portafilter basket, not only isn't it flat, but when you try to tamp it, it isn't level - the coffee on one side of the basket is higher than on the other, and the resulting surface is slanted.

This leveler weighs 17 ounces. It is NOT for tamping; it's simply for leveling. Just put it down on top of the coffee in the portafilter, and twist it. It will flatten the surface and make it LEVEL. Now it's fit for perfect tamping.

The leveling height can be adjusted by simply screwing the top of the unit upward or downward.
