If you are looking for espresso machines for coffee shops or other food service businesses, there are several options for you to choose from depending on your needs. The vast majority of espresso machines used for food service will need proper certification and inspection. If you aren’t sure what’s required in your area you should call your local health office and find out what they will want from you as far as certification goes. Commercial machines of all types are made for high volume use and are more rugged than their home-use counterparts. Commercial machines are generally automatic and you have the choice of just how automatic you would like your machine to be.
Full Sized Espresso Machines
These are some of the most common espresso machines for commercial purposes and generally require the operator to pack ground coffee into the filter and steam the milk. These are great heavy duty workhorse machines. Once the coffee is properly tamped and the filter in place, a push of the button will give a perfect single or double shot of espresso. Milk does need to be manually steamed on the steamer wands, so these machines still require a bit of training for those who will be regularly operating it. Coffee beans will also need to be ground to order on a separate grinder for the best possible tasting espresso drink.
One and Two Step Super Automatic Espresso Makers
These machines go a step further in the automation process and will actually grind, tamp, and extract the espresso at the push of a button. This can be highly convenient when you have a high volume of sales and can’t spare the time to do these functions manually. Another benefit of these super automatic machines is that they measure out a precise portion of coffee grounds, eliminating waste and creating a consistent product. The one step machines take the process even further and will steam or froth the milk for the operator, so the entire process of making an espresso drink can actually be condensed into the pushing of the button.
Pourover Commercial Espresso Machines
Pourover espresso machines are better suited to lower volume coffee sales, but are often subject to fewer regulations than full sized machines as they are not plumbed into a water line. These are smaller machines that have a reservoir where water can be stored for use. If coffee isn’t your primary business then this is a great option that will allow you to serve espresso at a much lower cost than investing in a large unit.
